Peripheral Neuropathy or Something Else?

Is your numbness, tingling, pins-and-needles, achy, or shooting pain in the hands and feet related to peripheral neuropathy or something else?

Many patients that we see in the Carmel and Indianapolis area are unsure if their symptoms are related to Neuropathy, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Cervical Spine (their neck), or something else.

Symptoms

It can be a complicated matter differentiating the various symptoms of:

  • Numbness and tingling
  • Shooting pain
  • Pins-and-needles
  • Shooting pain with movement
  • Achy Pain
  • Muscle and Joint Weakness
  • and many other related symptoms

Many Causes

It can be very complicated for patients and doctors alike to determine the specific cause or multiple causes of a patient’s symptoms. Take someone with numbness and pain in the feet – these can be caused by (but not limited to):

  • Diabetic Neuropathy
  • Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Sciatica
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Piriformis Syndrome
  • Infection
  • Trauma
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Metabolic Disease
  • Nutritional Deficiency
  • Circulation and Blood Flow Problems
  • And many more causes

Routine Limited Treatment Approach

Many times, patients have more than one cause creating these problems. We see patients in our Carmel, Indiana Neuropathy Clinic that have been treated by other medical providers for one of the above causes; but are lacking the comprehensive approach that is needed for this complex condition.

A Comprehensive Treatment

A comprehensive approach is needed for most patients with Neuropathy. Many times a patient in the above-listed case would need all of the following:

  • Decompression to the spinal nerves
  • Release the entrapment to the extremity nerves of the leg
  • Correct the nutrient deficiencies
  • Improve the blood flow and micro-circulation to the nerves
  • Re-stimulate and regenerate the nerves depending on the extent of the damage
